Chemical engineering is as old as civilization and is heritage dates from fermentation and evaporation process operated by early civilization. Chemical engineering is the development of processes and design and operation of plant in which materials undergo changes in physical and chemical state, applied through out the process industries.
Chemical engineering is playing crucial role by facilitating three basic needs for human beings, i.e., food, cloth and shelter. And also playing fundamental role in the society in which we live, from the production of computers, fuels, food, portable water, to control environmental pollution and development of medicines. Chemical engineers have unique skills which enable them to design and manage the sophisticated process plant which produce the commodities we all use. Today chemical engineers are not only limited to plants but also involved in major economic, strategic, and environmental challenges.
Chemical engineers are employed in diverse range of operations. From plastic, polymers to synthetic fibers, pulp and paper industry, pharmaceutical industry, nuclear industry, metal processing, space exploration, petroleum and petrochemical industry, oil, fat, soap And detergent, fertilizer, pesticides, explosive and distillery industries etc.
The Department of Chemical Engineering, faculty of Engineering & Technology, is a constituent part of MJP Rohilkhand University. Bareilly was established in1998 to cater the long standing needs of technocrats in Rohilkhand region particularly and the nation in the era of globalization. Department offers undergraduate programme i.e., B.Tech in Chemical Engineering. Already nine batches have passed out and we are proud that most of our students have been recruited in multinational companies, R & D organizations, public sector and reputed teaching institutions in our country.
Department of chemical engineering has shifted to the new building in the year 2007. The cost of construction of this is more than 2.5 crores and constructed by U.P.R.N.N Agency and satisfied the A.I.C.T.E norms. The department laboratories are well equipped with sophisticated equipments in all the labs namely Chemical Process Lab, Energy Lab , Fluid Mechanics And Particles Lab, Heat Transfer Lab, Mass Transfer Lab, Industrial Pollution Lab etc.
The new industrial pollution control lab will provide to take up consultancy work in the region.
Department is having very well qualified teaching faculties drawn from research and development organization, industries, government and educational institutes. The curriculum has accordingly been designed in consultation with reputed academicians of BHU Varanasi and IIT, Roorkee.
The department is also equipped with state- of –art teaching materials including multimedia projectors OHP and other visual teaching aids.
The focus of learning in our department has been application of Chemical Engineering to industrial problem. Students are encouraged to do innovative type of projects, with emphasis being placed on team project work. They are well trained to deliver lectures in seminars, preparation of seminar reports & project reports. The department conducts technical quiz, technical seminar, group discussions and guest lectures on related burning issues. Department believes in “Sound Mind in Sound Body” conducting annual sports, yoga & meditation training programmes. All these activities in the department provide a training ground to enhance personality and communication skills of the students.
The students who have passed out from this department are placed in reputed companies, industries and teaching institution. Most of them qualified GATE, GRE, TOEFL, PSUs and pursuing M.Tech from reputed institutes such as IITs, BHU Varansi, AMU, etc and also other reputed universities abroad.
