Genetics and Plant Breeding is a prime department of Faculty of Agriculture Science & Technology engage in teaching, research, and extension activities came into existence in 2025.
The main mandate of the department is to impart quality teaching to under-graduate and post-graduate students. Genetics and Plant Breeding a relatively new and rapidly growing field of contemporary biology.
The art and science of modifying plant features to create desirable qualities and, as a result, increase the quality of nutrition in human and animal products are covered in the curriculum.
Aspirants will largely learn technical techniques for improving varieties and genetic stocks, changing the genetic make-up of plants and developing novel breeding strategies to increase food, feed, and fibre production.
The department offers master’s program leading to M.Sc. (Ag.) in Genetics & Plant Breeding which was initiated in 2025.
The Annual intake of students is thirty for which admission procedure is conducted in July based on merit of UG and reservation is applicable as per Govt. of Uttar Pradesh.
The department has highly qualified faculty with doctoral and post-doctoral research experience in the current areas of Genetics and Plant Breeding and Seed Science.
The department is currently staffed with one professor and four Assistant professors to facilitate academics and research activities.
Department has initiated research activities to develop climate resilient high yielding varieties with resistance/tolerance to biotic and abiotic stresses and to produce good quality seeds mainly in pulses, oilseed, cereals and millet crops suited to Rohilkhand region.
Faculty members of the department also have active participation in various extension activities.
