Department of Microbiology
The Department of Microbiology is one of the important academic departments of the University.
Established in 2018, the department is committed to providing quality higher education, promoting excellence in research, and fostering innovation in the field of microbiological sciences.
The department aims to provide students with a strong foundation in the structure, diversity, physiology, genetics, biochemistry, and applications of microorganisms through a balanced approach to theoretical learning and practical training.
Microorganisms play a vital role in human health, agriculture, food production, industry, biotechnology, and environmental sustainability.
In the present era, microbiology has gained increasing importance in addressing major global challenges such as emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases, antimicrobial resistance,
food and water safety, environmental pollution, climate change, and the rapid development of biotechnology. The department seeks to equip students and research scholars with the knowledge, technical skills,
and scientific aptitude required to address these challenges through modern microbiological, molecular, and biotechnological approaches.
The department offers M.Sc. in Microbiology with an annual intake of 60 students and Ph.D. in Microbiology.
The programmes are designed to provide comprehensive knowledge of both fundamental and applied aspects of microbiology, along with hands-on exposure to modern laboratory and research techniques.
The department is committed to developing competent professionals and researchers who can contribute effectively to the fields of healthcare,
pharmaceuticals, food and nutrition, environmental management, biotechnology, industry, research and development, and higher education.
