Instruments play a very important role in all fields of education, research and industries. This branch is dealing with the design and application of devices, usually electronic circuits, the operation of which depends on the flow of electrons for the generation, transmission, reception, and storage of information. Instrumentation is an essential and vital component of modern thermal, chemical plants and any automatic machine. In fact instrumentation plays a role of brain and vein of such an industry. Electronics and Instrumentation engineering involves a broader and wider concept of intelligent instruments, fuzzy logic, biomedical instrumentation, cleaner technologies in environmental pollution control, measuring devices of flow rate in industries etc.

Keeping this in view, the MJP Rohilkhand University has started B.Tech in Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering in 1995. The course covers almost all basic, conventional and emerging fields of instrumentation technology. Presently, the building of Department of Electronics and Instrumentation occupying a space of 2200 Sqm. There are 8 lecture & tutorial rooms besides 6 moderately equipped laboratories. There are nine faculty members along with two guest faculty, out of whom three Readers, three Senior Lecturers and two Lecturers. There arefivetechnical staff to assist in the Department.

The department is fully furnished with well-equipped labs. In all, there are various labs namely Advanced Instrumentation Lab., Transducer Lab., Optical Fiber Instrumentation Lab., Microprocessor lab., Microcontroller lab., basic Instrumentation lab., and Linear Intergated Circuit Lab. and Analog/Digital Electronics Lab. Some of the labs are under developing stage.

The thrust areas of the Department included Digital System Design, DSP, Mircrowave Engineering, CDMA Communication, PC based Instrumentation & Caliberation system. The major focus of the Department in teaching and research has been on subjects of DSP and Digital system Design. The Department has 20 Computers and sophisticated instruments as well. There is a plan of action to achieve the aims by way of future plans by enhancing its laboratory facilities.

Apart from above labs, a lab namely Optoelectronics Research Lab. has been established under financial assistance from DST, New Delhi, UGC New Delhi and UP-CST Lucknow. One major and one minor project from UGC, New Delhi and UP-CST Lucknow have been successfully completed from this lab. Currently four research projects from various funding agencies are going on in the department.

The past record of the department has been great. The students have been placed in top branded Indian firms as well as MNCs at reputed positions. Companies like TCS, Infosys, HCL Technologies, Siemens, BSNL, Indian Air Force, and many other private and public sector firms have recruited our students. Many of our students are pursuing Post graduation courses at reputed institutions after having secured high GATE percentiles and CAT scores. The students who attained high scores in GRE and TOEFL are currently in studying abroad.
